Flash floods kill five in Syria

In short

The fatalities occurred in Raqqa and Deir Az Zor, where children drowned in swollen bodies of water and a motorist was swept away near al-Salmani Bridge. Heavy flooding subsequently tore through infrastructure across five governorates, causing al-Salmani Bridge to collapse and severing the main route connecting Raqqa and Aleppo. Amid the widespread destruction, rescue teams saved 15 trapped individuals and relocated roughly 375 families from three rural camps. This latest emergency follows June floods that damaged 49 water treatment plants and impacted 17,000 residents across the same region.
