In short

Defense planners are implementing the Agile Combat Employment strategy to counter vulnerabilities created by China's growing regional missile capabilities. Under the proposal, these dispersed island locations could support up to 6,080 annual aircraft operations alongside temporary infrastructure. This operational shift provides vital alternatives if primary regional installations, such as Andersen Air Force Base on Guam, are disrupted.
