Ed Sheeran gets approval to turn six Suffolk barns into private music archive

In short

The approved plans focus on repairing partially collapsed outbuildings to match their original historic scale and appearance for personal storage. This archive will complement earlier permissions that allowed a former piggery on the property to be converted into recording studios. To safeguard the surrounding environment, construction work must utilize hand tools under a special wildlife licence due to resident great crested newts. Sheeran has also pledged to plant 12 fruit trees and create a diverse flowering lawn featuring 19 floral species.

Ed Sheeran has received planning approval to restore six deteriorating barns on his historic Suffolk farm, creating private storage and archive space for his music collection. The decision, reported by the East Anglian Daily Times and Future Positive, adds another chapter to the singer’s carefully expanding countryside project, which also includes previously approved plans to convert an old piggery into recording studios.

The barns form part of Sheeran’s Grade II-listed farm in Suffolk, where planning permission was granted by Mid Suffolk District Council in October 2026. Rather than introducing a new standalone development, the scheme is designed to bring neglected 19th-century outbuildings back into use while retaining their historic character. A private archive in Suffolk

The approved plans will see the six barns used solely as storage and archive space for Sheeran and his family. According to the application, there will be no additional vehicles, lighting or equipment installed, reinforcing the private and low-impact nature of the project.
