In short

The historic property was originally rescued from severe disrepair by Wilson's nephew, Paul Ellis, who established the Daisy Wilson Artist Community to guide its long-term future. Following a September 2018 fundraising drive led by Denzel Washington, major contributions from figures like Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry pushed the project to completion. After pandemic-related delays, the finished 6,000-square-foot complex opened to the public in August 2022. It successfully blends the original 1840s architecture with a modern addition featuring performance spaces, galleries, and Wilson's faithfully restored childhood apartment.
