Land Rover has reduced prices of the Defender 110 in India following the start of local assembly, with prices dropping by up to Rs 34 lakh compared to the earlier completely built-up (CBU) import models. The SUV is now assembled in India through the completely knocked down (CKD) route, with the X-Dynamic HSE trim available with three engine options.

The Defender 110 3.0-litre diesel D350 and 3.0-litre petrol P400 variants are now priced at Rs 1.18 crore each, down from Rs 1.52 crore previously. This translates to a price reduction of Rs 34 lakh for both versions. The entry-level 2.0-litre petrol P300 variant is now priced at Rs 99 lakh, compared to its earlier CBU price of Rs 1.135 crore, making it Rs 14.5 lakh cheaper. India is the second country globally to manufacture the Defender, after Slovakia.

The local assembly programme also brings additional equipment to the Defender 110, with several features that were previously available as paid optional extras now included as standard. The D350 diesel and P400 petrol variants gain 29 such features, while the P300 petrol version gets 17 additional features as standard. These options were reportedly popular among buyers, with most customers opting for them on the CBU models.

Common additions across the lineup include electronic air suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, Terrain Response 2, Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control, a solar-attenuating windscreen, headlight power wash and a body-coloured spare wheel cover. The P300 petrol variant also gets a ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, a front centre console refrigerator compartment and three-zone climate control with rear cooling assist.

The D350 and P400 versions receive additional equipment, including Configurable Terrain Response, an electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking, 20-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels, heated third-row seats and 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with heating, cooling and memory functions.

The two higher-specification engine options also benefit from interior upgrades, including Windsor leather and Kvadrat seats, a suedecloth headlining, a Meridian surround sound system and a head-up display. Other additions include Cabin Air Purification Plus, an air quality sensor, a ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, a refrigerated front centre console compartment and three-zone climate control with rear cooling assist.

Land Rover Defender 110: Engine and performance

The locally assembled Defender 110 continues with three powertrain options, all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The D350 diesel uses a 3.0-litre engine producing 350 PS and 700 Nm of torque. The P400 petrol gets a 3.0-litre engine generating 400 PS and 550 Nm, while the P300 is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 300 PS and 400 Nm.

In terms of acceleration, the D350 can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.4 seconds. The P400 completes the same run in 6.1 seconds, while the P300 takes 7.4 seconds.

The Defender 110's off-road capability is supported by its electronic air suspension, which can raise the vehicle by up to 75 mm in off-road height mode, taking ground clearance to 293 mm. The suspension can also lower the SUV by up to 50 mm in access height mode.

Other equipment includes Matrix LED headlights, all-terrain tyres, a full-size spare wheel, a sliding panoramic roof and wireless device charging. The SUV also features the Pivi Pro infotainment system with a 13.1-inch curved HD touchscreen.

For water crossings, the Defender gets Wade Sensing, which displays water depth and alerts the driver as the vehicle approaches its maximum wading depth of 900 mm.
