In short

The contamination was detected after students noticed a foul odor in their water and subsequently suffered from vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach aches. Principal Dr. Amrita Ganguly confirmed that sick individuals received medical care at the nearby Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, while Apollo Hospital pathology teams later tested all 80 hostel residents. Officials shifted the inhabitants to another facility while workers thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the compromised tank. College administrators warned that hundreds of primates from an adjacent hill routinely forage on campus, damaging infrastructure and posing persistent health hazards.

AEC principal Dr Amrita Ganguly said, “Forty out of 80 students complained of minor illnesses such as vomiting and stomach ache, while three complained of diarrhoea. The students were provided treatment at the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, which is near the college.”

The principal added that doctors from the pathology department of Apollo Hospital visited the college on Tuesday to conduct blood tests on all 80 students staying in the hostel. “Now, the students are attending classes,” she said.
