In short

Journalist Rosamund Urwin alleged on a podcast that Winter snarled, swore at her, and made a hostile remark when she introduced herself outside court following the delivery of verdicts. Winter responded by referring himself to the regulator for England and Wales so the incident could undergo proper professional scrutiny. Urwin was previously involved in a September 2023 media investigation detailing sexual assault allegations against Russell Brand. While Brand's legal team claimed this prior reporting prevented a fair trial, an October bid to dismiss the criminal case was unsuccessful.

"Apparently I said, but I can't actually remember this but I've read it in reporting, 'I am pleased that justice has been done'", Urwin added.

In a statement, Winter said the "ways matters have been characterised" in the media meant they should be "subject to proper scrutiny".

The journalist claimed that Winter also said to her "well it wasn't you" and swore at her.

On Friday, Winter said he considered his professional duty required him to self-report the allegations to the Bar Standards Board.
