Bomb threats disrupt Europe flights

By · Published by Everything Blog

In short

Roughly ten flights faced emergency interventions, with budget carrier Ryanair seeing four routes targeted between the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, and Bulgaria. Italian fighter jets were scrambled to escort an arriving Rome service, while Warsaw temporarily closed an airport to inspect inbound planes from London and Copenhagen. The disruptions extended a pattern from Monday, when a London Luton flight diverted to Budapest under fighter jet escort. Subsequent sweeps by police and security officials across all involved hubs yielded no genuine hazards.

Irish budget carrier Ryanair appeared to be the worst hit, with four of its flights to different destinations being targeted.

London's Metropolitan police confirmed it "was made aware of threats ... against four aircraft due to depart from or arrive at Heathrow Airport" Tuesday, one of Europe's busiest air hubs.

It gave no further details, but also said there was a further warning about a flight at Manchester Airport.

Following checks "no security issues were identified", the Met police added.
