The emergency response began late Thursday afternoon after unauthorized activity was detected, though Binance insisted user balances remain secure and promised to absorb all resulting financial damages. Tether and Circle spearheaded the defensive measures by locking up more than $2.3 billion in affected stablecoins between them, with other industry players such as Ripple stepping in to halt additional token movements. Market contagion quickly followed, driving bitcoin to a six-week low of $77,646 and knocking Binance's native BNB token down more than 8 percent.
