The platform reached early critical acclaim by capturing the top spot on Product Hunt alongside a 2017 Apple Design Award and Mac App of the Year honors. Technical development culminated in the Bear 2 update, which introduced over 20 new capabilities powered by a scratch-built editor codenamed "Panda" and a bespoke Markdown parser. A browser-based edition named Bear Web is currently in public beta as creators target a comprehensive release. To maintain user trust, the application operates entirely without central storage servers or reliance on third-party APIs.

Back in 2013, three friends who loved Apple and design couldn’t find a notes app they liked, so they built their own. That side project became Bear. It arrived on the App Store in November 2016, and within a year it had been named Mac App of the Year and won an Apple Design Award. This November, the little Bear turns 10. Today it helps millions of people around the world capture their ideas and organize their lives every day, and we’ve felt so much love and support from all of you along the way.
The idea
We couldn’t find a notes app that fit how we write, so we started building our own.
More
We built it in our spare time. Our day job back then was building apps and websites for clients.
First prototype
Our friends loved it. Would everyone else?
Launch day!

The watchOS 27.3 developer beta brings conversational recall tools directly to wearers' wrists by using continuous ambient listening to transcribe and summarize recent speech. Wearers can quickly retrieve missed dialogue or save auto-generated meeting notes within the Siri application. To alleviate surveillance fears, the company handles the continuous mic input entirely on isolated hardware without creating stored audio files.

Advertisers will target users based on contextual relevance, connecting specific product promotions to user search phrases. The rollout builds on an aggressive series of platform adjustments aimed at monetizing user activity and locking down internal data.
