In short

Tournament organizers shifted the dates from early 2027 to a December 2027 through January 2028 window, pending formal approval from FIFA. The Asian Football Confederation cited extraordinary regional conditions following an October missile strike by Yemen's Houthi movement on Riyadh's airport. That airport assault resulted in 13 fatalities and injured more than 300 individuals, triggering widespread safety and logistical concerns. The postponement adds to a mounting list of suspended sports gatherings in the country, such as the Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition.
