Anthropic expected to receive high ‘junk’ rating from credit agencies following IPO, report says

In short

The credit projection follows heavy operational expenditures by the Claude maker, which has accumulated massive computing deals over the past 12 months. Blackstone, which served as an anchor investor in a $63 billion chip financing deal for the company, informed investors about the anticipated rating change. Facing a speculative-grade status could make securing future debt far more expensive as the firm navigates its transition to public markets. Both Anthropic and Blackstone have declined to comment on the reported projections.

TechCrunch reached out to Anthropic and Blackstone but both declined to comment.

Blackstone’s forecast is just a prediction, but naturally, a high junk rating would make it more difficult and costlier for Anthropic to raise the money to keep funding its massive spending that has undergirded its business.
