HYDERABAD: Seven persons, including three minors, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case involving the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Siddipet district. The incident took place on

Dasara when the girl’s parents had gone out for agricultural work, police said.

According to Maddur sub-inspector MD Asif, the seven accused allegedly took her to a neighbouring village on Dasara and left her back in her village the following morning.

When the girl did not return home through the night, her parents began enquiring about her whereabouts. They later learnt that she had allegedly been taken away and sexually assaulted. The girl reportedly identified the accused, following which her father lodged a complaint with the police.

Police registered a case under the

Pocso Act, arrested all seven accused and produced them before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Asif said the identities of the accused were being withheld because the victim was a minor and three of the accused were also minors. He added that drug tests were conducted on all seven accused using rapid test kits under the supervision of the Husnabad ACP. The tests did not indicate drug consumption, he said.
