Steam can now show game achievements in separate ‘sets’

In short

Valve is introducing achievement sets for Steam, allowing developers to list achievements for base games and DLCs, and players can unlock achievements by playing as usual, with Steam breaking the long list into developer-created sets. Progress bars for each set are visible, and completing a set earns a "set complete" trophy. Seasonal achievement sets and a refreshed Steam Achievements page are also planned.

Valve is introducing a major new feature for Steam achievements called “achievement sets” that lets developers list different groups of achievements for a base game and DLCs.

Developers with games on Steam can split achievements from a base game and its DLC into sets with their own progress bars.

“In games that support sets, you still unlock achievements by playing the game as usual,” Valve says. “But when you browse what you have unlocked afterward, Steam will break the long list of game achievements into the developer-created sets, making it easier to see what you have completed and to find other related achievements you can unlock next.” Achievement sets have their own progress bars, and if you finish a set, you’ll get a “set complete” trophy that’s visible on your profile.

Steam will support seasonal achievement sets that developers can archive, too. “We think there are a lot of fun ways games can take advantage of the temporary nature this can add, such as adding achievements to season-based games or enabling time-limited holiday achievements,” Valve says.

A handful of games already support achievement sets, per Valve:

Against the Storm

Age of Wonders 4

American Truck Simulator

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Crusader Kings III

DREDGE

Euro Truck Simulator 2

Forza Horizon 5

Flock Around

He is Coming

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Left 4 Dead 2

Portal 2

PowerWash Simulator

PowerWash Simulator 2

Team Fortress 2

Victoria 3

The company is also refreshing the Steam Achievements page to show “a summary of your overall progress, progress in each achievement set, and details on individual achievements.”

The new achievements features are available in the latest Steam client beta, Valve says.
