GANGTOK/DELHI: Dushyant Kumar Gautam was sworn in as the 19th governor of Sikkim Monday, succeeding Om Prakash Mathur.

Slamming the governing BJP for sticking with Gautam's appointment as governor despite the shadow of a murder case, Congress said its protest over the issue will intensify and it will gherao the Uttarakhand assembly on Oct 27.

AICC's Uttarakhand in-charge Kumari Selja said it is shameful that a person whose name is linked to a massive scandal is being appointed to Raj Bhavan. "Every citizen in Uttarakhand feels that there is no justice in the state. The murder of the young woman in the hill state in 2022 had shaken the country, but justice has not been meted out to this day." Selja said the party will take out yatras all over the state to highlight the issue.

Gautam was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Sikkim HC chief justice A Muhamed Mustaque in the presence of CM Prem Singh Tamang, judges and others.
