Israel is not allowing the construction of a key military outpost in Gaza that is part of US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, the Guardian has reported.
The board issued the contract in August to Louisiana-based Arkel International, which would build a base for 150 international troops that would serve as the vanguard of an international stabilisation force (ISF), the newspaper said.
Israel has yet to permit the contract to move forward, the Guardian reported, citing a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
Contractors and trucks are not being allowed to cross into Gaza to begin the work. “Israel won’t open the border,” the source said.
The Board of Peace, formed in the wake of an October 2025 ceasefire in Gaza, is central to Trump’s claims to have ended the conflict.
The source told the Guardian that without the contract, the rest of the Board of Peace programme cannot launch.
“You can’t get in without an international stabilisation force. You can’t rebuild,” the person said, according to the Guardian.
