MUMBAI: Five people, including two minors, were injured after a gas cylinder reportedly exploded while cooking in a shed used by private workers at an under-construction building on the IIT Powai campus on Thursday night.

The incident was reported at 10.24pm from Hostel No. 6 on the IIT campus. The fire was reported to have broken out in the workers shed following the cylinder blast.

According to information received from civic authorities, all five injured persons were in stable condition. Four of them were shifted to Kasturba Hospital for further treatment, while one was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital.

The injured were identified as Ansh Ahirwar (12), Tahjib Aalam (9), Ishwar Singh (37), Shivkumar Singh (34) and Anilkumar Yadav (23).

Police and ward staff were mobilised following the incident.
